Privacy Policy – Deep Translator (Chrome Extension)

Deep Translator (the “Extension”) helps you translate selected text and optionally display explanations using OpenAI’s APIs. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we process, how we use it, and your choices.

Information We Process

• Selected text you choose to translate. Only when you explicitly invoke the Extension (e.g., context menu, shortcut, or button), the selected text is sent to api.openai.com to obtain a translation and explanation.
• OpenAI API key (optional, user‑provided). If you enter an API key, it is stored locally via chrome.storage.sync and used solely to authenticate your requests to OpenAI.
• Translation history and usage count. Stored locally via chrome.storage.local to let you revisit recent results and show a small usage counter. Up to 100 recent items are kept; older items are pruned. You can clear history at any time from the Extension UI.
• Text‑to‑Speech (TTS) requests. When you press the “read aloud” button, the text you choose is sent to OpenAI’s /v1/audio/speech endpoint to generate audio.

What We Do Not Collect

• No account creation within the Extension.
• No third‑party analytics or tracking pixels.
• No sale or sharing of personal information.
• No remote code execution; the Extension’s code ships within the package.

How We Use Information

• To provide translations, explanations, and optional audio via OpenAI’s APIs.
• To remember your preferences (e.g., model choice, UI toggles) across devices using Chrome Sync.
• To display recent translations locally for your convenience.

Data Sharing

We do not share your data with third parties other than sending selected text (and TTS input) to OpenAI solely to fulfill your requests. Please review OpenAI’s privacy and security documentation for how OpenAI processes data you submit.

Retention & Control

• Your OpenAI API key and settings are stored in chrome.storage.sync until you remove them.
• Your translation history is stored in chrome.storage.local (up to 100 items) and can be cleared anytime.
• You can uninstall the Extension at any time to remove all associated local data.

Security

We use Chrome’s extension storage and messaging. Network requests are made over HTTPS to api.openai.com. The Extension does not inject or execute remote scripts.

Children’s Privacy

The Extension is not directed to children under 13. If you believe we have processed a child’s data inappropriately, please contact us so we can take action.

International Use

OpenAI may process data on servers outside your country. By using the Extension, you consent to such processing to fulfill your translation requests.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will revise the “Last updated” date above when changes are made.
